Malakoff, Kuala Lumpur 2009

顺着KL Marathon的势,Siemens Run 10kmSharp & Men's Health Night Run 11.5km都跑出不错的成绩。

Mizuno Wave Run 11km

Penang Bridge International Marathon 2009

I always wanted to try another full marathon right after my 1st marathon. I cannot wait for next year.

Therefore, Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) 22-Nov-2009 or Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 6-Dec-2009 has became my next target.

PBIM is my 2nd marathon of the year. Unlike my previous marathon, this time I challenge the half marathon category.

Queensbay - Villa Emas - Penang Bridge (turn at gate 2.8) - eGate - Villa Emas - Queensbay

Queensbay Mall is a shopping mall situated in Penang, Malaysia. Due to it sea side location, the place is windy. I do enjoy the wind before the race start.

3:30am with a gun shot to the sky, my race start.

As usual, I always make the same mistake. I run too fast in the beginning. I notice that when I reach the 5km water station, my time is 00:20. What the fuck, that is way too fast. My personal best 5km record is around 00:19, with this speed, I′m confirmed dead later on.

Thanks to my new stopwatch, I start to slow down my speed.

From 5km to 10km is the Penang bridge straight road. It is so damn scary to run such a long straight road, like a never ending road.

10km, a u-turn on the bridge with 00:47, is my personal best 10km record. It motivates me to keep up the good work.

From 10km to 15km is another long straight road on the bridge. I keep looking for the 15km water station. Finally I reach there with 01:15, yet another personal best record.

Now, I finally off the Penang Bridge, running for the remaining 6.0975km with very limited energy. I run constantly and reach 20km with 01:40.

Suddenly, I feel something not right. My legs seem like going to cramp soon. Last 1.0975km, there is no way for me to stop here.

I run carefully for the remaining distance. Thanks God I make it to the end, time 01:54:37.

A finisher medal is rewarded.

Every 2.5km, there will have a water station. Medical assistant is everywhere along the route. I restore my energy at the 10km & 20km water station.

Remember I said: "I do enjoy the wind before the race start."? Yeah, it is, but not after the race. A wet body with strong wind = cool ~!!! I faster change my cloth right after I have enough rest.

Penang Bridge International Marathon 2009 is way better organized than Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2009, there is too much water supply until nobody want to drink.

The next day, the result is out:
Ranking: 119th
Official Time: 01:55:08
Net Time: 01:54:34
Bridge Turn: 00:48:19
E-Gate: 01:28:21

I′m actually looking forward to be ranked within top 100. 119th is International half marathon category. For Malaysian category, I rank 102nd. So close ~!!!

Stopwatch

When I first see this promotion package - Gillette Mach3 Turbo plus a free watch, I know I′m going to buy it.

I want to buy a new safety razor. I also want to buy a new stopwatch. This is the best package that suits my need very well.

Let see how long I can utilize this free watch for recording my running time.

Mizuno Wave Run 2009

This morning I′m going for Mizuno Wave Run at Stadium University Putra Malaysia (UPM) which is organized by Pacesetters Athletic Club Malaysia.

I was expecting a good quality of running vest from Pacesetters as the previous New Balance Pacesetters 15km Run 2009 running vest is quite good.

But they had failed me, the quality of the running vest is just too normal. I guess it is depend on the branding very much.

Early morning, I had been awake by the heavy rain. I though I can skip for this run as I didn′t do much training for it. Unfortunately, the rain start getting light around 5am, too bad I have to wake up.

UPM 11km running route is having too much up & down hills. Especially the last long up hill, my legs almost use up all the energy. Luckily I still manage to make it non-stop running till the end. Time: 1 hour and 3 minutes.

Certificate & top 500 men open finishers medal still be reward.

Shape & Men′s Health Night Run 2009

Last week, I had tried my first night run at Putrajaya. Compare to a morning run, I feel like it is hard for me to get oxygen. One of my friends also claims that there is sun heat on the ground which made her legs with shoes feel hotter. Anyway, Putrajaya night view is awesome.

This time I take 11.5km run, my target is to finish it in 58 minutes. Same as my previous run, there is no timing chip for the run again. Never mind, I just use my own way to get my timing then.

The run start at 8pm. As usual, I skip all the water stations running non-stop till the end. I can feel that I run slower this time. By the time I reach the finishing line, I immediately look for any watch around the area & ask for the time. It is 9:03pm. I hope I didn′t see wrongly. That also mean I finish 11.5km in 1 hour 3 minutes, slower than my own target. But is ok, next time I will try harder.

After the run, I go to redeem my goodies bag which is worth RM300 according to their website.

Do you notice there is a condom there?

There is not much water supply after the run. I & my friends decide to go mamak for some drink after we take a group photo.

Siemens Run 2009

Yet another Dataran Merdeka runs right after Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2009.

The longest distance for Siemens Run is only 10km. It is kind of short for me. Because of that, my target for this run also changes to aim for completing in faster speed.

Right before the race, I had tried few trail runs at KLCC Park just to help myself set a realistic goal for the race. Last week before the race, I finally set my goal to complete the 10km race within 50 minutes & hopefully I can get a top 100 medal.

I wear Siemens running vest on the race day & start the race at 7:30am. From all my previous run this year that I had joined, this event is the only run that didn′t use a timing chip. I really disappointed on this issue.

I run well, able to maintain high speed running from beginning till the end, nothing happened to slow my speed down. I skipped all the water stations, my entire mind is thinking of the finishing line. Finally I reached. Without a timing chip, I immediately look for the big clock on the Dataran Merdeka building, time is 8:20am. Yes, I achieved my goal. I finished 10km in 50 minutes.

I get a certificate right after the race. My time is not good enough for top 100, no medal. Although I had failed to become top 100 runners, I still curious to know how much time I need to improve to achieve the top 100 dream. But unfortunately, I find nowhere to show the results on the race day, after the race, even until today, there is no results been announced.

So, I decide to post this question to their forum & I finally get a response:

"Hi fabiolee, with respect to Siemens Men open results, i believe we dont have time records for 100 runners. Siemens Run has not introduced the timing chip system yet. However, FTAAA managed the time records for the 20 to 30 runners of the category if I am not mistaken."

No personal timing record, no medal, no results for improvement. Worst event ever.

Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2009

Sunday morning, I wake up at 2am preparing for the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2009 which will be held in Dataran Merdeka. This is a very big marathon event. There are 12,500 participants in total.

2 days before the race day, I went to collect race pack during a weekday lunch hour.

It was a nightmare, as you can see, the queue is damn long. I end up have to go again on the next morning. This time, I only used 5 minutes to collect 7 race packs for myself & my friends, very big improvement.

Here is the running vest:

Compare to New Balance Run 2009 running vest, the quality is slightly lower.

My race starts at 5am, full marathon (42.195km) with a time limit of 6 hours. There is some small rain between 4:30am - 5am, but overall, it didn′t affect the race.

After 5 minutes the race start, my left stomach begin to feel pain, oh crap, not again during this important race. I try to adjust my body by running extra slow so that my pain will be gone after some distance. It works well, my stomach pain gone after I cross 8km.

From 10km on wards, my body feel fit & I think is time for some catch up with my extra slow start up. I start to cross a lot of runners one by one between 10km - 20km. And that is the biggest mistake I had ever made.

After 24km, I suddenly feel that my left leg having some muscle twitch, oh crap, my legs are not fit enough or maybe I am running too fast. I start to look for 100 plus, hope that water restoration can reduce my muscle twitch. But it didn′t work very well, I finally end up my first stop at 27km, begin to walk.

As my previous running experience tell me, when I start to walk, I might not able to run back so easily. Yeah, the theory work very well, I walk until the end for the remaining 15km.

I feel so disappointed during this 15km walk, although I feel like I am able to run for the last 5km after 10km of walking, but I didn′t feel like want to do so, cause 10km of walking is a shame for a runner. There is no different for 10km or 15km walk, I feel shame for both ways.

Well, I still pretend running for the last 0.195km, I cross the finish line at 11:15pm, which mean I took 6 hours 15 minutes to complete my 27km run, 15km walk full marathon.

A finisher t-shirt & medal still be rewarded.

Experience gained, mistake learned, I will do better for the next full marathon.

New Balance Run 2009

New Balance Pacesetters 15km Run 2009 was held at Tasik Perdana Lake Gardens 7am this morning.

There is only 15km category, no other option available, the entry fee of RM45 for this event also not cheap.

However, I get a damn good quality running vest.

The running vest is perfect. I didn′t expect to get such a good qualify running vest from New Balance.

I was a bit late to reach Lake Garden this morning. Thanks to the timing clip system, my time only start count when the timing clip on my shoes crosses the starting line, it is nice that I having a fair timing count.

Race start!

I think I am rushing too fast in the first few km, I was like rushing to cross all the people in front of me, but I know it is impossible.

I finally notice my mistake when I saw a "4km" sign board along the road. "Crap, I had use off all my energy on my first 4km run, how am I going to continue my remaining 11km?"

So, the remaining 11km was a night mate for me, I keep my mind strong to not stop running, I don′t want to become a LEAVER. Distance from 4km to 10km is terrible for me.

Luckily I still manage to finish it & get the finisher medal.

The finisher medal is a New Balance shoes. Not bad for the creative design.

Looking forward my next run - 28 June 2009 Standard Chartered KL Full Marathon (42.195km). Hopefully I won′t make the same mistake again.

Full Marathon (42.195km)

Today I just register for Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2009, Full Marathon (42.195km) Malaysian Citizens Men category.

You are right, this is not play play, and it is a 42.195km FULL marathon.

It will be held on 28 June 2009, venue at Dataran Merdeka. Time limit is 6 hours.

The route map is a bit blur. Overall it is almost cover the whole Kuala Lumpur.

My longest distance in a race competition previously is only 10km. This event is a BIG challenge for me. My target is to finish the race within 6 hours & get the finisher medal.

Please pray for me.

KL International Towerthon 2009

I just went to KL Tower International Forest Towerthon Challenge 2009 this morning at Menara Kuala Lumpur which is invited by meeeei.

I spend RM20 to register & get a t-shirt + "lucky" number. Some of my friends say the towerthon advertisement design for this year suck, so they not really like the t-shirt.

This is the entrance of the KL Tower.

This is my first towerthon experience. I would say I spent more time to walk than run due to the limited space on the Menara KL stair.

300 people running on the stair. Oop, no, they are not running, they are walking on the stair. The width of the stair is only around the size of 2 people. That only means, there are only 2 lanes. I had been force to walk on the stair due to the limited space & everybody block my way at the beginning few floors. By the time I reach half tower height, I already unable to run.

I am required to run approximately one kilometer uphill before climbing 2,058 steps to reach Tower Head 3 at 288 meter above ground level. There are 24 floors in total, but I would say it take longer time to reach 1 floor than any other building.

One of my friends manages to show her name in KL International Towerthon 2009 Individual Women Open Top 50. I am proud of her.

After the race, the organizer is giving bags & finisher medal to whoever can finish the race.

Overall, RM20 can let me visit KL tower & receive quite a number of gifts, I must say it is worth to join the fun.
